The Battle of Gettysburg Three Day Seminar and Field Tour

October 15, 2014 @ 8:30 am - October 18, 2014 @ 5:30 pm

It was the site of the largest battle ever fought on the North American Continent. Few battles
have generated more scholarship; literally thousands of books have been written about the battle, or have been
devoted – in large measure – to the battle. Some historians have referred to it as the turning point, or “high water
mark,” of the Civil War, some have questioned that moniker. What is not questioned are the casualties; nearly
51,000 combatants were killed, wounded, captured or missing in the three furious days of fighting on July 1, 2 and
3, 1863.

Join Witnessing History’s First Army Corps as we re-fight and re-consider the Battle of
Gettysburg… and be prepared to do some walking. The backdrop will not only be a battlefield
that is one of the most hallowed and beautiful places in America, but a rural setting with mid-
October leaves at their peak of color.

Each day we will explore the three days of conflict, covering how and when the troops on
both sides arrived on the field and how they fought, regiment-by-regiment. Where they came
from, who led them and what happened to them will be discussed. Also discussed will be the
questions of command, the strategic and tactical decisions, some of which have long confounded
scholars and students of the battle. Some of the suggestions and answers for decisions made on
that battlefield will surprise – and challenge – you.

Kent Masterson Brown will be your guide for three magnificent days following in the
footsteps of those who fought the Battle of Gettysburg. The headquarters for the Seminar and
Field Tour will be at the wonderful Wyndham Gettysburg. A lecture overview will be given at
the hotel on the evening of October 15. Each day’s field tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. on October
16, 17 and 18, and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. With the cooling temperatures, a different hot
“Farmer’s Lunch” will be served each day at Hickory Bridge Farm in Ortanna, Pennsylvania.
The weather and fall colors should be magnificent; the seminar and field tour will be
unforgettable. You are urged to sign up quickly as space is limited and there is a very high
interest in this tour.

It will be Gettysburg like you have never seen it! See you there.
